Hairography.

You asked to see my new, shorter, do, so here it is.  I absolutely loved it the day my stylist did it.  She's like a little hair magician.  But then I came home and experienced immediate and total hair insecurity because I could not for the life of me, make it look as cute as she had made it look!  (Robin, are you sure you don't just want to come over every morning and do my hair for me?  I'll even hold your baby while you do it!)  I regretted my decision to go with a cut that required the hair styling know-how that I clearly did not possess, and it's taken me an entire week to make peace with that. I'm not normally so impulsive with things, (bold-faced lie) and for the first time in my life, I experienced regret!  I never regret things.  I'm just not wired that way, and the entire shock of it left me feeling rather naked and vulnerable.  Of course that could have just been the wind across my newly bare neck.  I've always seen regret as a total waste of life, because it's not as though you can change the past, only the future!  I think that perspective comes from a combination of passion, decisiveness, and impulsivity on my part.  When you blend all of that together, you get a bundle of gung-hoishness that never looks back.  However, that same bundle of gung-hoishness also never took the sewing scissors to her own hair before.  (Bangs don't count.) It's taken me an entire week to learn how my hair wants to be styled with this cut.
Now this part is dumb, and I know that, but I'm being real here so I'm just going to say it.  I felt like I'd chopped off all of my femininity along with my hair, so then I cried because I felt like I looked like a boy. Didn't see that one coming.  My girlfriends rallied around me, and advised me that number one, I did not look like a boy.  Number two, I should go get a new lipstick, play with scarves, accessories, and have fun with it, and number three, I must remember that it will grow back.

To that I realized that my son with be twelve years old when my hair is restored to it's former length.  And with that knowledge, I cried for an hour and then passionately declared that, "Never again will scissors touch my hair, for as long as the moon and the sun shine."  (Because if you're already crying over cutting your own hair in the first place, you may as well go all the way with that.)  Anyway.  I like it, it's fine, it's cute, whatever.  It's just not long anymore, so I'm growing it back.

The End.

  2. Personally I think it looks amazing! Trust me you DO NOT look like a boy-If anything it makes you look more feminine!
I do understand not being able to style it like your hair dresser with the wonderful name of Robin.
I'm having a hard time with my new short cut too. I am determined to get it down yet!

    Robin~♥

  3. It's so cute - don't despair! Put some mousse in your wet hair and then dry your hair upside down. Works for me every time - and I've had my hair cut just like yours a million times.

  7. I totally feel you on feeling like you lost your femininity. Shortly after I had my son I chopped my hair off. And when I say off, I mean, my hair was dry like 2 minutes after getting out of the shower. I had friend that had really short hair and I thought I could pull it off too. It took me weeks to start to feel feminine again. I too grew mine out. I will go short again...just not that short. Your hair looks great and very feminine. Would you ever see a guy have his hair stacked in the back with the cute bob angle cut? I think not :D Like some of the other commentators, play it up and have fun with accessories!

  8. Very nice! May a suggest a simple way to change it up? a flat iron. you can use it to curl your hair, too. check youtube for instructions. you can have straight ends or ringlet ends. you can do a wave or two. Anything! Just need to get one that heats up to at least 200 degrees. And hey, if you don't already have one - Christmas is coming!! Love ya, ,Sasha!

  9. I love that hair cut. I had long hair al my life and now I wear mine super uber short! I'm hooked and won't ever grow it out again. Just give it a chance you look adorable. You can curl it too for a different look. They get it looking all perfect with a flat iron.

  11. I hate getting a drastic hair cut and not being able to replicate their cute style afterward. I've also cried over my haircuts, but if my hair looked THAT CUTE I would be jumping for joy! Dahling...you look faaabulous! :)

  14. Ok, I could sit here and say how cute it is, or how you don't look like a boy, but I'm not going to say that. I am going to say that you, Sasha, are a beautiful amazing, inspiring woman. You are a true gift to so many. I always leave your blog feeling just a little bit better, isn't that something? Also, your hair is cute and you don't look like a boy. There.

  16. I think it's cute....but I know what you mean. How IS it that the hairdressers can work such magic and then we get home.....and YUCK!

PS: LOVE your word...gung-hoishness. Totally GET it. :)

  18. It looks super cute and it totally feminine, fun and flirty! I think it makes you look younger too, in a good way not like a 12 year old way. :) Play around with products. I have hair that is similar in length to you and I blow dry it with a round brush and then finish it with a straight iron. New make up will make you feel special too!

  19. I chopped my hair once. She cut it VERY short, more than expected. As I got in the car where hubs was waiting for me with the littles, my daughter asked: "why did you get a boys haircut mom?"
I think your hair looks fantastic! Just wait... you may find... neck nibbling may increase? ;-)

  20. About 4 years ago I randomly decided one day to get the EXACT same haircut that you have now. It literally was exactly the same. I loved it at first, hated it and cried a lot next, and then loved it after I started getting a lot of compliments. I am thinking about doing it again, actually. Anyway - I can totally relate with the whole chopping off the femininity and how that feels, but I assure you, you look beautiful. Women have some much of their self-esteem wrapped up in their hair - I swear! But yeah, you look amazing. You are beautiful and you are going to totally rock this new look!

  21. NNNOOOOOO dont grow it back!! it looks awesome!! its so stylish :D and you look beautiful!

  22. Hahahahahaha you totally crack me up.

Also, aren't I such a good friend? Laughing at your pain?

I know, I'd want to be BFF with me and send me Christmas cards too.

Also, you look AMAZING and I could only DREAM of having hair that cute. Because I am the most cosmetically challenged woman in the entire world and have only this past month even picked up, let alone used my hair dryer and thus look like I have a mushroom hair cut.

So. All that to say, I have hair envy and think you look gorgeous.

  23. Short hair is sexy, sassy, and full of personality - not everyone can pull it off, but you my friend, are fabulous in this new do!!! I mean it - I love it!

  24. Girlie I would NOT lie to you. I think you are a knock out. Your hair looks so shiny and healthy. It makes your eyes look even BIGGER...if that's even possible. Just stunning. I get the change being hard thing...but it will grow on you I'm sure:)

  25. I know you don't know me, but I wouldn't lie either. Your long hair was gorgeous...but this cut is totally YOU!!!

    It suits you so much!!!

It also makes me MISS my cut that was THAT cut. :) I had that exact hair cut until I grew it out....

now, I'm the queen of a pony tail...which kind of makes me feel like a school girl.

    Your hair is GORGEOUS!

  26. I think your cut looks very cute and feminine. You could back comb it a bit for more volume which would also be very cute and might make you feel a bit more girly. On the plus side, necklaces will not get stuck in your hair anymore. I hate when that happens. lol

  27. I adore this cut on you... seriously! I had it myself two years ago and it's SO easy to do compared to long and wavy/curly/straight.

Like one person said, flip it over and dry it, then use a flat iron on top and on your bangs, then get some styling putty at the store (cheap stuff will do), rub it in your hands and gently comb through your hair.

You can also do it wavy/curly and it will look cute. Add gel or mousse and scrunch, then either let air dry or dry it with a diffuser (do one section at a time for 40-60 seconds each).

Okay I hope I have helped! I really do love it :)

  28. honey, it's ok...it will grow back. I have felt the same way several times. It's like when you go "under the knife" you want to come out feeling good about yourself and it's frustrating when you don't.

  29. Surely you know I feel you on this one, right? I'm sorry I didn't think to mention the possibility of feeling boyish. I just didn't think about it because an inverted bob is so much longer than my last haircut. And because every time I hear "inverted bob" I think "Posh Spice" who is one of the least boyish style icons out there. Too bad we're too modest to pump up the cleavage as much as she does, eh? Er...maybe not too bad...but you get me, right?

Anyway, I must say, your hair does not look that much shorter to me than your last haircut. It's cute and has a good shape, so it should grow out pretty well. I'm in the throes of growing-out-my-pixie-cut, which is painful every time, no matter how prepared you think you are for it. Which is why you will see few, if any, pictures of me for the next couple of months. It's brutal. Every morning I have to repeat to myself "I do not have a mullet. I do NOT have a mullet. This too shall pass. It did before and it will again. Cutting it will not help. This stage is inevitable. Just don't look in the mirror."

Trust me. You are in a much better place than I am right now. Work that thang, you diva you. *wink*

  30. I'm not just saying this to make you feel better, I LOVE IT! I know I don't really "know" you, but from what you share here on your blog, I think this look seems much more "you". It's spunky and sassy and very feminine. Your long hair was very pretty, but I think this look has more personality.

Let's trade hair! I love, love, love it!

The texture, the volume, everything is great.
