Marshmallows have become a metaphor for my life...

Friends, my heart is completely overwhelmed by your encouraging words yesterday.  Overwhelmed...I tell you!!  I think I read every single comment with tears in my eyes.  Twice!  (Because once wasn't enough!) Your support is such a blessing and I don't know how I would do this without you guys spurring me onward! Well, I wouldn't.  Plain and simple.

Anyway, I normally keep these two lovely canisters (found last year at TJ Maxx for five dollars each) filled with practical things like "flour" and "sugar."  You know, for when I want to whip up something delicious in my kitchen.  Late last night, as I was reading my book club book,(The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher- Soooo good, by the way.) I had the sudden and totally unrelated urge, to clean out these canisters and change what was in them.  (Don't try to unravel the "whys" of that, because there is no connection, whatsoever.) I filled them with big marshmallows and cocoa, and then turned to Adrain with an immediate epiphany, telling him that this switch was now a metaphor for my life.  To his credit, Adrain smiled and simply said, "Okay."

2011 is going to be a cocoa and marshmallows kind of year!  Last year was more a flour and sugar type of year. In other words, basic and rather boring.
This year, I'm all about bringing on the fun. (I swear this child has even bangs.  They are perfectly straight, but they never stay that way after the initial hair-coming of the day.)
 And the laughter.
 And the moments.
Lest you think I'm just going to be sugared up all year long, I'd like to assure you to the contrary, and enter this ginormous bowl of fruit as exhibit A.

Speaking of fruit-  How are y'all doing on your New Year's Goals? It's only been a week, so if nothing is changing yet, don't let yourself believe the lie, that this year is going to be just. like. last. year. (I've had someone tell me that already.) It's early!  You've still got 359 days to make those good changes!

Let's just hang together, not give up, and eat some sugar. (Sorry, that last part just popped out by accident.)

  3. I am all for a "marshmallow and cocoa" kind of year. And I think your son has a career in Blue Man Group ahead of him if he can fit that many marshmallows in his mouth.

  14. oh how absolutely delightful this is! can you feel my smile in my comment!! Because this made me smile REAL big! I love the metaphor with last year being flour and sugar and this year being marshmallows & hot chocolate - kind of like you spent last year MAKING things work and working at things and this year - you will enjoy your labors from last year! Anyway, can I just say this: THOSE EYES on JJ - killer! Adorable!

I call my kids boomerangs when they act silly/crazy and/or without thinking because I get annoyed and they STILL come back to me and love me :))

Thank you for your encouragment - even though I didn't set any MAJOR goals I do have things I want accomplished and somethings put in motion so far so good!!

Have a great day - xoxo

  24. First SSMT verse done (I can even say it today) and I'm well on the way to memorizing my second. Choosing to walk up hill whenever possible and today I bravely opened up to someone I love but have a difficult relationship with. (And it wasn't a conflict driven conversation.)

  27. YUM! I totally love the idea of a cocoa and marshmallows kind of year. I could use one of those myself.

As for my resolutions, still going strong! I have even managed to stay away from Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts and McDonald's on my way to work (I walk through a mall to the train and I have to walk right past all three of them). No coffee of any kind. Today was a toughie but I braved it out! ;-)

  28. I'm a "change on a whim with no connection" woman myself. Love the metaphor... heading out to Target to tomorrow to look for those canisters. Cute kids. Mine are grown and in late teens. I actually miss those younger days with them. sniff, sniff. Enjoy. ;-)
