Sunday Night Musings on nothing of great importance...

Tonight, we officially kicked off BBQ season.  We've had the same tiny, old, rusted grill for the past eight years, and it finally broke down last Fall.  My man got a new one for his birthday present this past weekend.  I think he was in man heaven.  I don't call this BBQ season, I call it "side dish" season.  That's when my man cooks the meat, and all I have to do is prepare a side dish.  It's like a cooking vacation.  I love it!
One of my favorite side dishes, is some kind of fresh tossed salad, with slivered almonds, chow mein noodles, and chopped scallions, along with a honey mustard dressing that whips together in no time.  Even my hoodlums like it!

Honey Mustard Dressing:
3 Tbsp honey
1 1/2 Tbsp rice wine vinegar
1/4 c mayo (I use olive oil mayo)
1 tsp Dijon mustard
1/8 tsp sesame oil
*Blend all in a mixer or food processor.

I'm growing my hair out.  And because this includes my bangs, I'm now sporting the daily bang-french-braid.  (Thank you Jennifer Aniston.  Where were you with your genius bangs-are-too-long-trick when I was in the eight grade?)

We had a showing today that got me feeling really hopeful.  (Well, until we hear otherwise, I'll just let myself feel hopeful.)  I left half-dead yellow tulips in a vase.  Come to think of it, they're still there.

I picked up a book the other day during spring break, and was having a terrible time getting into it.  The author kept talking about these characters like I should know who they were.  It was driving me bonkers, until I realized I was reading book three in a series.  I was half way through at this point, and now I can't decide if I should continue, quit, or go find books one and two.  Has that ever happened to you?

I got more accomplished today than I did all week.  I don't remember the last time I had a day like that.

We have two birthdays to celebrate this weekend, and I've got a whole half day with my man and no hoodlums.  I have no idea what we should go do!  He loves it when I play golf... tennis... hiking... that sort of thing with him.   We'll see how the weather cooperates, but it should be lots of fun!

One of my BFF's, Nurse Nicki just surprised me, and asked me to be a bridesmaid in her upcoming July wedding!  However, when I tried on the cutest bridesmaid dress in the whole entire world, I experienced momentary regret that I didn't work on my push ups all winter long like I told myself I would.  Dangit!  (Incidentally, the dress is deep purple, strapless, and I think a cuter bridesmaid dress never existed.)

Okay, I've got to go kiss babies good night.  Thanks for hanging out while I rambled over here...

  6. we haven't hauled out the grill just yet...i know the weather today is warm and the forsythia is in bloom, but i'm suspicious that the weather is going to play a nasty late spring trick on me and snow again...i think i have trust issues...yes, the bang braid looks awesome and yes, i could've used that look in 9th grade. sigh.

    blessings,

  8. Lucky Lady, I am dying to grill but first a new grill will be required. Our grill grilled its last burger last summer.

Your hair looks great. I grew mine out the entire year and finally it is at a length I am happy with.

I'm hoping that you get an offer on the house. I know how badly you want to move. As you say Patience!

    Till then,
    J.

  12. Love homemade salad dressings, so I'll have to try yours. And for an incredibly tardy response to the tweet I just noticed in your side bar...overalls at Target...I saw them in an ad and all I could think was "been there, done that, burned the pictures, next please."
