Inspiration strikes

I seldom post photos from other sources on this blog.  Not because I don't collect photos from other sources, but because I can never remember where I got them from, and I hate to post things when I can't give credit where credit is due. Sadly, I have one photo collected from somewhere, with no code to link back to. I began hunting for inspiration a while back, when I asked my brother to make me a narrow table desk.  (He just finished it, and I begin working on it this week!)
What I loved about this room photo, (Martensen Jones Interiors) was the lamp.  And not just the lamp, but the color and shape of it.  I found a similar shaped and colored one at TJ Maxx earlier this month, and I mulled it over for a week or so, and when I went back, it was still there, so I grabbed it for my new desk space.  I loved the blues, greens, and whites, and felt like they were really clean.  Maybe too clean for me....
So when I stumbled upon this photo by Garnet Hill, my eyes and heart were drawn instantly to the table in this photo.  The colors, the chippy-ness, and the less clean mix of blues, greens, and whites.  I'm a girl who does need pops of color in my life.
This photo sealed the deal in my mind. (No idea where I nabbed it... so sorry if it's yours!) I found a color that is a good mix between the green and blue tables- and darker... more like a jade-turquoise.  Very interesting color and could either be amazing or horrid.  I like to play things right on the edge like that.  It keeps life interesting, I always say.  I also saw a project idea, where you rub a dark stain on the wood, and then once dry, you paint over that, and sand a good portion of it off.  I'm going to give that a try.  Worst case, I end up painting the whole thing white, right?
My brother did a fabulous job on this desk.  He made it exactly the size and shape I requested, and the chunky legs ended up being very farm-housey.  It will be perfect for a little Mama computer space.  (And so nice to not have to share desk space with my man!)  The goodwill chair makeover can be found here.

I can't wait to get working on it and show you what I come up with.  Wish me luck!

  3. I love the crisp, clean look of the first room! Especially since I cleared out the baby's room and all the extra stuff ended up in our bedroom. Clutter, chaos.

That table turned out awesome!! I can't wait to see the finished product. Love that lamp.

  6. The inspiration photo with the turquoise coffee table, green apples and fireplace is the living room of a Hollywood casting agent who lives down south now. I can't recall her name, but her home was featured in one of the two issues of Cottage Style last year. I had that exact picture dogeared as an inspiration photo, too!

  12. i saw that green table in garnet hill mag too, and i told my hubby i needed a table like that. he said, "we did and you ruined it." i painted it white! usually that takes anything from drab to fab, but it didn't. i'm still sad about it!!
