Transformation

Don't you just wish all things in life could be transformed with a light sanding and a coat of paint?  I'm attempting to carve out a little desk area for myself right now.  I used to have this adorable white armoire, and I blogged from the computer within.  Then when we decided to try and sell our home, we moved it into the office space in our bedroom.  My husband uses that office space for work.  And there is no girly area for me in that office area!  For the past year, I've carried my laptop all over the place and it's driven me crazy.  It needs a home!!  I am in the process of sweet talking my brother into making me a simple narrow table, and it's going to be grand!  But, in the mean time, I'm planning it out.  I hit the Goodwill for a chair the other day, and this is what I came up with.  I considered keeping the honey oak chair frame and just replacing the seat, but decided that would be horribly out of character for me.  (I paint everything.)
So, I painted it "Creamy" by Sherwin Williams, after sanding and priming it.  Then I sanded it's edges, and gave it that distressed look I love.  I already had the green pillow, and I arranged a bunch of my favorite things in a sweet collection that will hang over my "desk" space, once I have that.  I love having all the silhouettes I've made of my kids in one spot, that that plate was a TJ Maxx find for $2.00 a few years ago, then I got the letter "B" from Leen and stuck it in the center! I made the chalkboard from a frame found at the Goodwill and it used to hang in my bedroom.  I feel like this all goes so perfectly together.
I replaced the ugly seat cushion with a creamy waffle-weave pattern.  I'm in love with the details of this chair.  I kind of wish I'd grabbed two so I'd have a matched set, but dangit, I just didn't.
I'll be sure and show you once this chair has a home.

Where do you blog?   Any cute ideas for simple desktop organization?  I'm not a fan of clutter and my desktop will be narrow and long, so I'd love any ideas you guys have!

  1. I blog everywhere and anywhere my laptop takes me. I have a desktop in my office that I use for bookkeeping but all the fun stuff happens on my laptop. Sometimes I do wish I had a "space" to go to with it. I'm sure yours will be super fun as always!

  2. I need a chair like that! I blog on our laptop, which usually resides on an antique gate-leg table that was my great-grandparents'. We use a Costco folding chair at the moment, but I'm halfheartedly looking for an appropriate chair which can also double as an occasional chair for the living room. So it has to be pretty!

  3. sooo cute! I want to do this with a table for our kitchen but I'm wondering how the paint would hold up for a kitchen table? (I mean, needing to wipe it off and all?)

  6. Yes soul sister, I feel the burning desire to paint it all, too. Someday I'll have to show you my distressed white Drexel Heritage chairs (a set of 2 for $7.50 a piece!!!). But I don't sew. They are sadly in need of new cushions. And I blog wherever. But my favorite spot is a reclining loveseat in the living room where I can gaze at the mountains.

  10. Wow, that chair and the area you plan on having your desk came out great. I blog at my kitchen table with my laptop and or at my desktop next to my kitchen. Crazy, I know! lol. So happy I liked LMM on Facebook because I'm not seeing your posts on my dashboard on blogger for some reason. Have a great rest of the week!

  11. Your chair is SO lovely. I'm not gonna lie, my dear. I am LOVING you all settled into your home, and the homey sweet posts that flow forth... :-) I'm currently stripping a chair right now for reupholstering. It's a "conversation" chair, and whoever upholstered it before me was apparently very afraid that the piping would leap of the chair in the night, and strangle them in their sleep, because that piping is stapled, and the staples are stapled, and those staples are stapled. I'm gonna have a 5 gal bucket of staples when it's all said and done.

Can't wait to see what you do next! I blog on our desktop, unfortunately, but I'm hoping for a laptop soonish.
