For the love of random conversations...

Good morning you guys!  I had to show y'all the top I'm wearing today as I begin my post.  I have fallen in love (serious love, I tell you) with this gray (grey?) top.  I was dropping off my bridesmaid dress at the consignment shop yesterday (because I don't believe in procrastination) and as I exited, this top was being displayed on a mannequin.  Have I ever mentioned to you, that I'm a notorious mannequin defacer?  Oh my word, if I had a dollar for every mannequin outfit I've taken off, and purchased over the course of my life, I'd be rich.  (And I wouldn't be shopping in consignment stores for every article of clothing I wear. Ha!)  It was sitting there, all cute and grayish, for $5.00.  A must-have, in my opinion.  I didn't even try it on!  I just knew.
My man loves feminine, soft, clothing on me... and I do try and appease him every so often.  (When I can resist the allure of my black yoga pants, that is.) Anyway, I had to share.  (It's difficult to resist a man who looks this good first thing in the morning....) Also, my arms ache because we just began week 5 of P90X.  People, would you believe I have only lost about three inches, and about two pounds?  (I do realize that eating 3 cupcakes weren't exactly helping me... but still.)  All this work and only a tiny result?  I'd better see a few more results here soon....
I promised one of my sis-in-law's that I'd post this: My project all day yesterday, was a mini-makeover for my daughter's room.  I've been promising her a few things ever since we took our house (her room) off the market, and realized it was time to make good on that promise.  I've been looking for a pair of shutters (like the saloon door swinging type) to attach together and create a twin sized headboard for her.  She wanted red.  (That's my girl, go for the color!)  I found a pair of them at our local Re-Store, in great condition, and all they wanted for the pair was $12.00.  I found these flat-bottomed, round ball finials at Michaels, for about two bucks each and I already had the red paint.  (I did some jimmy-rigging to the finals, using some hot glue and a skewer inserted into the screw holes on top.  Eh... whatever works.)
I think Ava made the right choice by going with red.  I love her Ikea bedding, and this red headboard just completed it. Little girls are so much fun.
So, two things Ava loves.  Animals- mainly dogs, and American Girls.  She loads up on American Girl stories every time we hit the library, and I realize that this is my favorite stage of being a Mama.
This idea is not at all original to me, and I think I saw it on Better Homes and Garden's website, but don't quote me on that.  I drew a few dog silhouettes, and then cut them out, and put them onto some red and white gingham paper.  We found a few frames at the Goodwill and painted them, then hung them.
The little dog hanger was a gift to Ava, the last time Adrain and I went to Ikea, and now Ava can hang things on it.  I'm still working on an artwork display of some kind next to this, but I'll post on that when I finally figure out what I want to do in here....
Ava picked out each pattern of paper, and then I painstakingly cut and glued them onto these letters above her bed.  (She was very adamant about the colors and patterns.  It was funny watching her select them.)

She's happy with everything, and I'm happy she's happy.

Oh... and the adorable red barn next to her bed?  My brother, Officer McJakey made that for her birthday!  The roof lifts off, and there are horse stalls inside for all her animals.  She loves it... I love it... it's better than a dollhouse!

Also, and I know this is random, but I think we've already established that my mind thinks in random patterns on a regular basis... I don't believe I've shown you guys my corbels? These are under my kitchen island and the finishing touch to our recent kitchen redo.  Aren't they sweet?!  My next post will be a few more wedding photos.  (You didn't think I was done with that so soon, did you?)

Alright, I've got to get off this computer and go hit Target for some floss and other exciting items.  Have a great day friends!

  11. Christy, the corbels were found at Lowe's. They are ridiculously expensive, if you ask me, but apparently we had to have them for the granite overhang...

  15. That barn is cool and like her DREAM letters too. My dad made me an airport hanger similar to the barn that the roof lifted up. I wasn't big on dolls.

  16. Love the red shutters, very cute. Ava has a good eye. Your top is adorable! We buy most of our clothes at a resale shop, it's so much fun to hunt. Randomness is good. I love that your blog is simple and refreshing, no list of followers and the other stuff that many have. Have a very blessed day!
