It begins...

We did it.  We made it through a morning of minor melt-downs, a few emotional tears, and many unanswerable questions.  One little person had to skip lunch due to a nervous tummy.  Another little person needed a hug-a-minute.
Then we sucked in our courage, opened that big heavy, double door, decked out with brightly colored paper notices, and found our way to various classrooms. We smiled into cheery teacher faces.  Found name tags.  Located desks.  Peeked into library windows.  Oohhed and Ahhed over music room instruments begging to be played.  Wandered hallways.  Greeted old friends and acquaintances.  Signed up for PTA stuff.  Breathed in that one-of-a-kind first day excitement.  Memories flooded into my mind.
Strawberry and cream cheese bunny sandwich, (idea taken from Parenting magazine) cheese cubes, peanut butter crackers, rice crispy treats and salted edamame.
Clothes have been laid out for tomorrow. Backpacks are filled with supplies. Lunch boxes are packed full of love. (They aren't gluten free just yet... Gluten free family begins on grocery day-this Friday! I'm excited and you guys have been HUGE in helping me with this.  All your little emails and websites and recipes and even meal ideas have been fueling me.  Thank you so much!)
Mama's first day, nervous energy running route has been staked out and a new playlist awaits.  Man I am going to miss my babies... But all of this feels so right for our family, in this moment.
So here we go.... a whole new adventure awaits.

  1. Can you make my lunches?? So cute! They are going to be great. It is going to take them about 2 full weeks, so let them have that time to adjust. All will be well :)

  7. Happy Trails, as the new ones are being BLAZED! :) Y'all are going to do great. We started today, and if it helps, we had nervous tummies too (and I work there!). Just keep reminding yourself, that if God has called you on this adventure, it is sure to be a ride worth going on! Prayers for you and the kiddos. Oh, and you are a Mama that ROCKS - my lunches were not as cute!

My baby is a freshman this year and had those nerves too! funny because he probably had not had them since 3rd grade. I hope they have a good year, and you too!

  16. Back to school! Makes everybody a little nervous, doesn't it :-). I look forward to hearing that all are happily settled into their new routines (including you!) and that all is well. Sure, any change will take a little wiggling around to make the fit just right, but you can do it! God is in heaven. All is right with the world.
