Footloose

Can we talk on a completely frivolous topic like Kevin Bacon today?  I need frivolous because my heart is heavy and frivolity is really good for the soul sometimes!  What's that Proverb.... laughter is good medicine or something like that?  I'm so excited about Footloose.  Like, we're talking giddy, grab the person next to me and do a little dance excited.  KnowwhatImean?  I actually have girlfriends who never saw the original!!  Isn't footloose a classic?
I have a few words.  Acid wash jeans.  Please tell me it's not going to offend anyone if I laugh my head off right now.
 I look kinda like this.
I don't know what it is about me... but I love dance movies.  Oh and cheerleading movies.  (Yes, I have seen all of the Bring it On classics. Ahem.) And Step Up movies.  And you want to know something?  I can't dance.  Or cheerlead.  I am single handedly the most uncoordinated person on the planet.  I make step aerobix instructors weep.  True story and if you want details, ask my BFF Alli, cause she was there.
Isn't she adorable?  I love her hair.  (I was just thinking the other day, "Gosh my hair is finally growing again!"  Note to self... don't ever cut your own hair again!!  Ever!)
So... little different... but I still can't wait to see how similar the overall styles are.  And check out the dance moves!

Are you going to see it?  Do you remember the original?  Oh and by the way, do you love or loathe Kevin Bacon?  (One minute I think I like him, but then I scroll back up to that top picture and start laughing again... I just can't help it!)

Thanks for being frivolous with me today... love you guys!

  1. I love Cheerleading and Dance movies too and I can NOT dance or do Cheer stuff either. I don't know if I'll go to the movie but I'll be first in line at the Redbox when it comes out.1

  2. I'm not sure I like the fact they are remaking the movie. Some movies just need to be left alone. I will go and see it, though.

I would love to look like her!

  4. I just never liked the movie. My cousin, however, went to see it every Friday for like 2 months. I wonder how the remake will be,I wish they had gotten Zac Efron for the lead. :-) Oh, the new girl is WAY cuter than Lori Singer.

  5. OMG...LOVED Footloose. Went to see it with my brother, sister and and three friends. After the movie, my brother rolled down the windows, blared the music and drove slowly, while the rest of us jumped out of the car and danced down the street in front of him. Haven't thought of that in years!!! Thanks for the memories!! LOL

  14. I'm the worst, but I LOVE originals of movies and really have no desire to see the remake. That said, your pictures made me think of Kevin Bacon saying "Let's Dance!" at that crazy prom thing in the barn. :)
Good memories.....Thanks for the stroll down that lane!
And I'm 2 degrees from Kevin Bacon. :)

  16. I know I love you b/c I *just* watched the original (and in my humble opinion, the ONLY* Footloose this past weekend. And sang along to the songs. And danced a bit whilst on the couch. Which made my husband none too happy as he lay prone on the sofa, reading Twitter on his iPhone. That's b/c he didn't watch it as a kid, and therefore grew up in what I call The Void, which has made his sorely lacking in pop culture references and 80s musical hits. Seriously, it's like my life's job to teach that boy about life.

  17. Oh my word...those acid wash jeans are pulled up way to high!!! I never saw the original - I think I probably lived it since I went to a very conservative Christian school that didn't allow any dancing or going to movies... kinda scared to see it now...I'm afraid it would be hokey after all these years.

  19. Girl of the 80's here!! Loved Footloose and Kevin Bacon!! Don't hold the clothing styles from the 80's against us! Check out "Dirty Dancing" if you haven't already! It really is a great movie!!!

  20. He can't help it that he was dorky...it was cool in the 80s. I mean, like everyone who was anyone wore acid washed jeans. haha! I *love* the original Footloose. I have it on dvd and have made all of my kids watch it. They like it too. I must say the new one looks pretty good. I was totally AGAINST a remake but it does look good.

  22. I'm sorry your heart is heavy and will pray for the Lord to lighten it and meet your needs. Kevin Bacon, hmmmm, his characters always struck me as kind of a punk kid, maybe it's his nose, hee hee.
    Have a blessed day!

  24. Oh My....I am the same way and love dance and cheerleading movies. Footloose and Dirty Dancing are some of my favorite movies....along with Julie and Julia! I remember when they promoted Dirty Dancing and I was in college and thought what a stupid looking movie and I LOVED it! I am very interested to see what the remake of Footloose will be like. Kevin Bacon was just so cute back then.

  25. I've never seen the original Footloose! But I love Julianne Hough so maybe I'll go see this one. I want her hair. I want my hair to grow. And I need to not cut my hair until next July after my brother's wedding. :)

  26. Hey Sasha! So, I was working on a craft today and I thought, "Oh, I bet Lemonade Makin' Mama would really like this craft." Haha, isn't that funny how we can totally feel like we know people we've never met. Anyway, I just want to tell you that I love you wrote about something frivilous...I often feel the pressure to be super-spiritual or deep on my blog...but some days just aren't like that! Also, I want to encourage you that you bring so much joy and truth to lots of women! I know that it is frustrating to watch the Lord moving other people and to wonder what He is waiting on in your own life, but know that He is using you right where you are at! Your blog is one of my favorites to read, because you are always real, always humble, and always a joy! Love you lots though I've never met you! Hope that's not creepy. (Which brings me to the final thought that Kevin Bacon DOES creep me out...I think it's that rafting movie where he tries to kill the family.) :)

  27. Oh my word Lara, you have no idea... that comment was MEDICINE to me. I am in the midst of circumstances and well... you were the blast of encouraging air I was desperate for. Thank you for the sweetness... thank you for the kind words... so blessed my hurting heart today in specific areas of hurt too!!!

And as for the creepy movie... I was TOTALLY thinking about that yesterday. And how I did NOT like his slimy character in that either! Hahaha

    Thanks girl. So needed this.

  28. omg...not only was I obsessed with the original, my sister was in a play of the movie a few years ago. This movie totally endures...I'm not sure how I feel about a new version, but maybe it is needed for a new generation. At the least, it is not a violent movie and celebrates the power of happiness and dance :)

  29. The new Footloose is just as wonderful as the original Footloose, and though I thought I might feel a little traitor-ish if I enjoyed the new movie without the Bacon, I and ten friends thoroughly enjoyed this new movie just as much as the Bacon version. In fact, there were very little changes in dialogue, scenes, and music-slight changes that made the movie able to stand on its own as a new classic. Now I need to get the soundtracks from BOTH movies, and these friends and I are planning a Footloose inspired line dance flash mob-just because it was so much fun!
