This post of random, brought to you from my sickbed.

Ugh.
I don't get sick very often.  I go, go, go all the time, even when I'm sitting still, so when it hits me, it really hits me.  I have some nasty thing that took up residence in my chest right now... basically, it feels like a 200 pound man is sitting on my lungs.  So I might not be around the blog much the remainder of this week, because I'm going to rest up and kick this thing in the tail.  But please leave me comments to keep me company!  Seriously.... talk about whatever.. the weather, I don't care.  I'm feeling cooped up.  I'm missing bible study today.  I miss swimming with Nurse Nicki in the mornings.  I miss doing stuff.  I miss breathing!  But to be honest, I probably needed this break.  I wrapped up all but two of my custom orders yesterday, and though I've got a dozen things to finish and list in my Etsy shop... it's not happening any time soon.
I did get sucked into the TV series Pan Am.  Have any of you seen it?  I have a feeling I'm going to seriously regret saying anything out loud about it because it seems like every time I say I enjoy a show, it turns quickly into a morally questionable show that I have to quit watching, and I'm certain Pan Am won't disappoint on that front if I keep watching it long enough.  Dangit.  I only saw two episodes and was smitten with the clothes and hair though.  Adorable.
My children brought home a ton of Valentine's candy last night, and after Googling what was Gluten free and what wasn't, they proceeded to dive into a serious mostly unsupervised sugar binge.  Boy did they luck out that I wasn't feeling at the top of my game or I'd have been rationing that stuff like crazy.  My man got me a darling necklace as a gift.  It looks a little bit like Mickey mouse now that I really look at it.  Which makes me laugh.  Cause I'm not really a mickey mouse kinda girl.  I really like it though.  Please take note of the tired face and bags under my eyes.  Perhaps if I point them out, y'all will feel really sorry for me.  Have I ever mentioned that I'm the biggest baby on the planet when I'm sick?  Yep.  I am.  I actually cry.  Who does that?
I got Adrain new pillows as a Valentine's gift.  I didn't go to a lot of trouble, because it's not really a holiday for men.  Can we all just admit that?  And then I proceeded to spend half my day in bed, using them.  I did get him a funny card though.  No one can say I'm not romantic.
I also bought my son some shipping free, clearanced, bedding from Pottery Barn.  I might be a little bit giddy for you guys to see it.  His room has been long overdue for an update, and his quilt is about nine years old, ratty, and the dog's favorite bed, so I thought it was time we freshened things up for him.  He's super excited, and he's been having a rough time of it lately so this mini room re-do is a little love to his heart, from me.  I painted him an old, green, truck for his room, since my Ava got the ruby slippers.  He wanted some "Mama art" in his room too.  I'll have prints of it on Etsy soon, but to be honest, prints are always slightly darker than the original paintings, and in this case, that didn't turn out nearly as well as I'd have liked it to.  The original is absolutely darling, but converted to print, it has way too much darkness and green for my liking.  Dangit!  (Not saying you won't like them, and  I'll still put it out there... but I'm bummed it didn't turn out as cute as it really is.)

Speaking of being bummed about prints... because of Picnik closing in April, I used some of my advertising capital, and bought Photoshop Elements.  I might pull every single one of my hairs out over it too.  Everyone says it will get easier. I think they are all liars.  So far, I have not been able to edit one single photo.  Not one.  I have no idea where to begin once I've uploaded it.  I sit and stare at it, none of it makes sense and I end up nearly in tears and just exit.  Am I really that stupid, or is it just that I'm sick and need to quit doing things?  How is there no directions on how to use this thing anywhere?  Maybe I'll spend the rest of my sick leave figuring that out.

Or I might just read all your comments like a magazine, and go take a nap on my new pillows.

  1. While you are stuck in bed check out Brandi Girl Blog, she is a Photoshop Elements gal and really good at explaining it. Look her take on life too.

  5. Hope you get to feeling better really quick!

I use Photoshop Elements and I love it. Feel free to ask any questions (I owe you lots of answers since you help me so much with camera issues!)

  6. I'm having the same problem with the Picnik to Photoshop Elements transition. Picnik is so user friendly, although it does seem like one could really edit beautiful pictures with PE. I wish there wasn't a huge learning curve. If I find an easy solution I'll let you know. For now, I'm going to check your comments for ideas too.

I LOVE your new necklace and I don't think it looks like Mickey Mouse at ALL! I think it looks like intertwined circles of LOVE! Really I do.

Oh, I do hope you feel better soon. You still look beautiful even when you are sick.

  7. hi again! i just wanted to ecourage you that photoshop elements WILL get easier! I use it all the time, I'm not a pro or anything, but once you just practice a few of the basics it will be second nature!
One tip is to try to get some "actions" like these from pioneer woman: http://thepioneerwoman.com/photography/download-files-for-pioneer-woman-actions-elements-version/
these aren't necessarily "the best" but they're free and a good place to start! it makes it a little more like picnik because you can just push buttons to get the desired effect. but then you can also edit that effect more than you could at picnik, so really, it will be better :) it also helps to see what you can do... another set of actions i like is from: http://www.florabellacollection.com/index.html -but they're a little pricey! i only have a couple but i use them a lot!
i totally don't mean to promote her, but the pioneer woman also has some photoshop tutorials here: http://thepioneerwoman.com/photography/category/basic-photoshop/
feel free to email me if you have some more basic questions, but there are probably a lot of people who are more qualified to answer :)

  10. Aw...I hope you feel better soon. I,too, cry some when I'm sick. It gets depressing sitting around. Hopefully that 200 pound man will hop off your chest and you can scurry about your business! :)

I love your necklace! Super cute! And that hair! Daaahling!

I totally agree with you about Photoshop. My hubby says it's so easy and he can maneuver around the thing like nobody's business, but me...not so much. I end up frustrated and often in tears. I will let go of my Picnik kicking and screaming I tell you! Kicking and screaming! *sigh* What's a girl to do?

Hope your day has lots of bright and cheery moments to lift your spirits!

  11. I know nothing about photoshop or editing or any of that kind of thing. But I will add you to my prayer list this week. As much as I look forward to your blog posts, I think you should rest as much as you can so this won't drag on and turn into something yuckier.
I am trying to meet my goal of spending more time with the Lord, and in reading His word. Once you are feeling better, I would be interested in hearing how you go about your Bible reading. Is it mainly from your bible study class or do you just open the Bible and read there?

  14. Sorry to hear you are sick -- hate feeling bad myself.....sending you "feel-better-soon" vibes...

About Elements, I am a computer programmer by trade and I have to say that I hate my Elements. Talk about being user-friendly? NOT.

I am a visual learner and was going to suggest what someone else already has - YouTube - If there is something I want to do, I search YouTube and find a video - then bookmark it for next time.

Happy to see the Actions suggestion - might have to run out and get some of those myself! That would make it more like Picnik.

And from this Mickey fan - I LOVE your necklace :)
    Pam

PS - wanted to ask ---- just started dabbling in painting myself, where do you get your prints done?

  17. Feel better soon, I always eat my way back to health. I love Pan Am I still have 2 dvr'd that I need to see, I like everything about that era except maybe the GIRDLES! I love how they dress up everyday with the pearls and gloves and the men in the suites love it! I also love Parenthood it's real with a little TV exaggeration. Can't wait to see what you add to your shop. Cute necklace he did good. What bags are you talking about girly.

  18. Hope you feel better soon! Don't feel bad about Photoshop Elements...I got it as a gift from my hubby about 2 years ago? and I have yet to sit down and thoroughly learn how to use the dumb thing! It is just too frustrating. Wish somebody would swoop in and show me how to do everything. :)

There might be good news on that front though...I thought Layla from the Lettered Cottage said her husband Kevin was going to be making a site/tutorial of some sort on the basics of photography and Photoshop, so maybe check out their website on updates??

    Take care now.

  20. My own blog has been sadly neglected the last couple of weeks due to a birthday and various illnesses. (Poor husband had food poisoning and I've not seen him quite that sick for a LONG time.) Now I've got an absolutely miserable cold... ugh. I'll commiserate with you! Hope we both feel better soon!

  21. hope you are all better now. it will come. if not try out lightroom. love you friend. oh and those sweet sheets are divine. so sweet.

  22. Um...I cry when i'm sick. So you're not the only one. It sucks being sick, but we'd never slow down otherwise. Last week I was drug down with a nasty cold, and I went to bed right after my kids a few nights that week. It felt sooo good. Hope you get some much needed rest and feel better soon!

  23. I hope you are feeling better soon and rest assured that you are not the only one afraid of Photoshop Elements...I have had it since May and do the exact same thing. Oh, and Pan Am? A guilty pleasure of mine as well. Entertaining fluff.

  24. hubs bought me photoshop elements back when i was preg with #4 (she's 3 now) and i'm still learning....I do use it almost everyday though...i love it....but i realize how lame i am at it! haha

  25. I hope you feel better soon. It's amazing how fast everything in the house becomes dissheveled when the mom is the one down. I just have to ask you where you got your sheets with the little yellow flowers? I have searched all over for some cute sheets and I mostly find solids, everywhere, except Anthropologie which is out of my budget. Don't worry about what others say about what you watch on tv. I love that era too, of course I was born on the tail end of it. It's your motive that counts. My hubby & I watch the other bad show Desp...Hou..you know, because it's just so silly.
I know your kids are doing a good job of taking care of you because you are such a good mom to them.
    Blessings!

  26. I cry when I'm sick too. It's pathetic...and then I cry more because its pathetic that I'm crying. My husband laughs at me all the while...and then makes me hot tea with honey in it.

Take care of yourself...the more you rest, the faster you will be back to running circles again!

  27. Feel better!!! I thought of you yesterday--and posted a picture of my favorite shirt bought from you--the necklaces were worn the night before--I never did part with them. Is that bad???
Just finished a review on two books you might like: Bringing up Geeks and The Baker's Wife--one non fiction and the other fiction: )) Can't wait to see your sons room: ) Have fun with it when you're better, of course!

  28. Oh my word I love you guys. My son just told me he loved me (spontaneously) and I cried. I told you I cry when I'm sick. (Okay I cry when I'm not sick...)

Angi- I got them at TJ MAxx about a year ago? I know exactly what you mean about not being able to find cute sheets in prints in your PRICE RANGE. I hunted for a couple of months, looking for just the right ones. I've seen cute ones at Target too... but TJ Maxx has been my favorite sheets find. Good luck!

Thank you guys for all your comments... they have been making my heart SO happy today!!

  29. Sending you (((HUGS))) and praying for you to feel better soon. No fun being sick at all.
I was going to suggest pioneer woman for photoshop elements as well as the coffee shop blog, but someone else beat me too it.
Get some rest. We'll all pop in tomorrow to chat you up. : )

  30. I'm sad about Picnik closing too. :-( I have no idea how I'm going to make a header for my blog now. What a bummer. I've heard someone else say how difficult it is too. Good luck on it. I'm sure you'll get the hang of it.

    Feel better soon! Rest.

  31. So the weather here in New Zealand is hot. I am wishing it wasn't. And I love your necklace.... while yes I did see the Mickey Mouse likeness it also reminded me of the verse "A cord of three strings is not broken" - love it. Rest up well, maybe you need someone to lend you the Downton Abbey series to 'help you rest' :)

  32. Your blog is my absolute favourite(and I love you new hairdo too) - take your time recharging your batteries and getting well again. Don't rush it!

  33. So sorry you are sick! God slows us down sometimes on purpose! I have had Photoshop for several years and still cannot use it. I just don't have the time to plow thru the tutorials. I am going to be forced to do it for the same reason you are...sigh I also have a brand new Mac and don't use that either! Honestly, I don't know why my husband doesn't just quit on me! he buys me stuff and it takes me FOREVER to adapt! Enjoy some reading...TV watching (LOVE PanAm!) and catching up on sleep. Keep a notebook to write all the great ideas that will flow when you're quiet!

  35. Hope you feel better fast! Praying the congestion ends soon. That stuff is the pits.

I took classes on photoshop once, but it's gone now. I've slept since then! Haha! So, I'm back in the same boat again.

The necklace is cute, even if it resembles a creative little mouse. :-)

  36. Let's see...it's Saturday...so hopefully by now you are feeling MUCH better!
My husband got me that very same necklace for Christmas! I have three boys, and online when I saw it I was thinking "wow! it could stand for my 3 boys...it could stand for the trinity...it's so cute!" then when I put it on, I looked in the mirror and thought "mickey mouse!" HA! I still love it though!
your fb posts have me all excited about next month. :) can't wait!

When I bought Elements I took some online tutorials at www.kelbytraining.com. They may help. Good luck!

  38. I just found some online video tutorials for Photoshop Elements and they are from Adobe. They are in small segments which is easier for me to absorb. I though I'd share them. Maybe they will help. I'm feeling pressure to figure this thing out quick. :D
