Lemonation... and a GIVEAWAY!!!

**THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED.  THE WINNER OF THE GIVEAWAY WAS JANET@ORDINARYMOM, CHOSEN BY RANDOM.ORG.  CONGRATULATIONS JANET... PLEASE CONTACT ME AT LEMONADEMAKINMAMA@COMCAST.NET TO CLAIM YOUR PRIZE!**

I don't know if you know this or not... but there's a lot of you out there.  My man calls you guys the Lemon Nation.  Or as I spell it in my head, "Lemonation." (And side note here- did you guys know that my man not only reads every single word I write... he also reads every comment you leave?  He loves you guys as much as I do, and when I mention any of your names he knows exactly who I'm talking about.)  You know... I think we could do some big things together if we all got on the same page.

The other day I got an email from Blood Water Mission (the organization I've come to just love) talking about a new campaign they are promoting.  (You may remember me talking all about them here, when we hosted a Lemon:AID stand. If you want a real blessing, host a Lemon:AID stand of your very own.) They want to build a dam in Northern Kenya, an area that suffered the worst drought it's had in six decades.  The campaign is called "Give a Dam for Africa."  (You can totally admit that you laughed just like I did.... and perhaps pictured Rhett Butler talking to Scarlet O'Hara.  Or was that just me?)

Anyway, it's going to provide enough water for 3000 people (for a lifetime) when it's done... and there's more of you reading this blog post than that!!  They are inviting us to participate by donating $25 (or more) per person, toward the construction.  I was laying awake the other night thinking about you guys, (and yes I lay awake and think about my blog sometimes) and while I realize that not everyone who reads LMM is in a financial place to give $25.00, I couldn't help think about what would happen if three thousand of us just up and did it.  We could make that dam happen all by our little selves.

And as it happens... today is National Lemonade Day.  Who knew?  I feel like we need to be passing around yellow and white stripey straws and lemon cupcakes in honor of the day.  But... what if we do something else to celebrate?  What if we all give $25.00 toward OUR DAM, and what if the fun peeps over at Blood Water Mission give you guys an opportunity to win some great loot in the process?

That sounds like a win-win to me. By the way, this is Kellie.  People, meet Kellie... Kellie, meet the people.  Kellie works for Blood Water Mission and she's a sweetheart.  I'm sure you can tell that right away, just by looking at her.  Girl paints her nails cherry bomb red.  Ya gotta love that.
Okay so if you want to join my family and Give a Dam in honor of National Lemonade Day, go ahead and click over here to donate.  Either way, you can enter to win this cute hoodie, (in whatever size you'd prefer) fun mug, and some other "undisclosed loot" that Kellie's going to throw into the prize box for ya.

All you've got to do in order to be entered into the drawing, is like Blood Water Mission (here) on Facebook and leave a comment back here, letting us know that you did!  Easy peasy.

Let's Give a Dam people!

I'm Lemonade Makin' Mama... and I approve this message.  (Bwahahahahaha!)

  1. What a wonderful charity and, may I add, National Lemonade Day- how are there not Halmark cards for this?? Lemon bars for everyone!
I just donated on behalf of our babysitter, Kenzie. She has a special place in her heart for Kenya and just returned from a month of working in an orphanage there. We love her and this is just one way to let her know she's in our hearts. Thanks for getting the word out on this great organization!
**And I especially love the "Give A Dam" title - I'm in GA, home to Scarlet and Rhett, so that is close to my heart!

  5. I've donated and liked - as above, I'm not sure if I'm eligible for the giveaway as I'm in the UK, but I loved the idea of all of us being a community, internationally, who can come together and make a difference to people without water. How exciting!

  14. I did like them on Facebook and am considering donating. I'm hoping you could share more of what you have learned about them. I love people doing good in the world and always want to help but you hear so many stories about "the fleecing of America" with all these fakie charities where most of the money is really paying it's non-profit "employees". Do you have any details about the organization like what percentage of the money actually goes toward the project and what percentage pays their employees?

    1. Hi I just wanted to respond to your question as an employee of Blood:Water Mission. The organization is highly responsible with donor dollars and is very transparent with our financial statements. Here is a link to our financials page so you can see our documents and annual reports. http://www.bloodwatermission.com/about-us/financials-annual-report.php

Our projects are our highest priority for funding, but some (about 20%) of donor funds are needed to go to administrative costs to run the office and have employees to do the actual fundraising. 20% is very standard among non-profits. I hope that helps! And please email me if you have any other questions! thank you for asking the hard questions to keep us accountable and responsible!

    2. Thank you so much Kellie! You don't know how much I appreciate your response. It's so hard these days to be a responsible giver when there are so many organizations out there that need help and then you hear that it was just a scam. I hope you understand that I was not trying to offend and just wanted to be accountable as well (only on the giving end). Your organization looks amazing and my kids are wanting to do a Lemon-Aid Stand. Thanks again.

  15. Happy National Lemonade Day to my LMM! My former dance teacher, posts "National _________ Day" EVERY SINGLE DAY, so I should have known about this! What a great cause! By the way, if we are part of Lemon Nation, does this make us Lemonheads? Just wondering! And yes, the red nail polish is rockin' on her!

  21. Hi there! I liked Blood Water Mission on FB. I heard about them a few years ago when I was at a Jars of Clay concert, but completely forgot their name by time I got home. I can't tell you how excited that we have a nickname now....Lemonation just rolls of the tongue just right. Our family just GAVE A DAM! (hehe)

  23. Thanks so much for promoting this on your blog. I liked Blood Water Mission on FB. I just returned for Zambia where we visited three bore holes (water wells) that our church has drilled. I do not have the words to express how it thrills their souls to have clean water. It must be a huge blessing not to have to walk many miles and carry five gallon buckets of water on their heads. Even the little girls carry a baby on their back and a bucket of water on their head. Blessings for what you do.
