I came up with these chore charts last year for each of my kids and it knocked 80% of the morning stress from our routine. All they had to do was read, do, check off and show me. (And occasionally there was a fantabulous and unexpected reward in it for them... kind of like a pop quiz, only more like a pop-reward. I like those.)
I laminated the charts, and purchased small clipboards for them. I painted the clipboards so each hoodlum would know which is theirs, because we don't want any fighting over that sort of thing around here!
I hung them on the fridge with 3M hangers, and placed magnetic dry erase markers beside them.
I love little boxes waiting to be checked off. and yes, I did put "Hug your parents" in there... it gives us a daily giggle when they get to that "chore."
So you see how easy that was to whip together? You can do the same and get your mornings organized and ready... And if you don't want to go to the trouble of making these and putting them all together for yourself, I've stocked up my shop, and you can order a customized one for your hoodlums, here! (I kept the clip boards unpainted in my shop.)
I wish I could make a pot each day just smell it, and then give it away. Ha! (Basically what this means is that as soon as school begins, I can now have girlfriends over for COFFEE. You know... with actual COFFEE. I'm a little bit excited about that.)
And lastly, the dreaded lunch chore is nearly upon us... Is it just me, or is making lunches just about the suckiest job out there next to laundry? I always start out with such a bang too... little cute notes, fun snacks, cute packaging and then by about mid-October I'm hucking things into their lunchboxes left and right, desperate to get all the lunches packed and put away so I can collapse onto the couch and do nothing for the rest of the night. (Again... maybe this is just me.)
Anyway, I created these re-useable bags for my own kids. (Though I'm still working on one that JJ doesn't roll his eyes over because apparently the black and white paisley lining I chose for his green striped one is too girly. Whatevs.)
You can slip sandwiches and snacks into them, wipe them clean with a damp cloth and you're good to go. And you can be a good steward of the earth's resources in the process and who doesn't love that?
But the main thing is... I made them cute. Because if lunch making is such an obnoxious chore in my world, I was kind of hoping that the sight of cherries, flowers, stripes, checks, and butterflies might perk things up a bit. I made all different kinds and you can see the variety here.
And if you'd like some, you can order yours here. (P.S. I didn't make that many because well, we're getting ready for school and I've been kinda busy. I will be hitting it hard and listing a bunch of other stuff soon though, so if you miss them this time around, let me know and I'll hook you up via custom order, mkay? You know I love ya.)
And the winner of the National Lemonade Day giveaway was Janet@ordinarymom. The peeps over at Blood Water Mission picked Janet using random.org. Congratulations Janet! Shoot me an email at lemonademakinmama@comcast.net and I'll hook you up to claim your prize!
Happy Wednesday my friends... I hope it's a good one for you!

Love ya sash! Your sis in law char!!
ReplyDeleteSo cute!!! I truly love everything that you do!!!
ReplyDeleteI have ordered two of the chore charts for my girls, they are so sweet! I don't suppose they'll get all the way here in time for the start of term but I couldn't resist and I'm really excited for them. The girls and I have agreed on the list of chores (I hope you don't mind putting in British spellings) and we're looking forward to them arriving. Like you I'm not looking forward to parting with my 2, it's been such a lovely summer, but I think I'm finally learning to enjoy the time we have together without panicking that we're not doing fun enough stuff, or making the most of the time. The charts' arrival will help to brighten up the gloomy mornings ahead as we get into autumn and winter in northern England!
ReplyDeleteI just ready your "Kiss for Mummy" and I LOVED that. I kind of want to go change mine now. LOL
DeleteI'll get those done today! :)
laminating those chores lists is so smart and the lunch pouches are adorable and clever! good luck on the lunch planning and packing!
ReplyDeleteand best wishes to you and your family as you start another school year.
oh - would you please share the source on that pretty sign with the wise words, "comparison is the thief of joy"? did you make that/would you sell it? love it! thank you.
kathy
I was going to ask about that sign too, and I forgot in my excitement over ordering the charts! It's a lovely sentiment!
DeleteI was given that sign by a beloved reader actually- she sent me a free printable link and I just printed it on my own computer... I don't have the link any more but I may be able to still find it somewhere. I know another reader saw it once and located it so perhaps it's easy to find...
DeleteI found it!!! Go here and you can download it. :)

Wonderful! I've printed one out for in my kitchen... I think every woman needs one somewhere in her house!
DeleteLOVE the chore charts! and i bought some lunkskins from target for hunter... although, i like yours better! might have to return those ones! : ) your shop is the best. so much pretty over there! you are the best, too. duh!
ReplyDeleteMwah! :)
DeleteLovely idea for the chores charts, beautifully executed in your Lemonade-making way!
ReplyDeleteBTW, my little girl starts Kindergarten soon and we're getting ready for the big milestone--a chart would be a fantastic addition. I'll be looking into it!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much LMM, the chart arrived quickly--I'll have to throw a quick coat of the light aqua paint on it. I have to tell you, on the first day of school (kindergarten), while I admittedly had a bit of the butterflies, Katie pounced into our bedroom (while her daddy and mommy's eyes were still half shut)and said, "Mommy, I did everything on the list. I just need to kiss you goodbye." Wow. If this how the morning routine is going to go, I'm one happy mama. Your chart has worked wonders, and she loves checking everything off the list. Great idea!
DeleteYour pouches are really adorable however oilcloth is not considered a food safe product. Laminated cotton is considered food safe.
ReplyDeleteHmmm... not sure mine are authentic oil cloth... I know they were recommended for table coverings when I purchased the fabric, so perhaps that is what they are... I figured if a store recommended them for table/food they would be fine.
DeleteWhew... Just checked with the company I purchased them from and they said it's NOT the traditional oilcloth and is foodsafe. Relief!
ReplyDeleteI really love those cute clipboards! Breakfast was always a pain in our house when the children were younger and my daughter always tried to skip it. So, I made a week day planner and they had to choose in advance what breakfasts they would like, lay up the table the night before with bowls, cereals etc, all ready so it made for a smoother routine and less hassle for mum! Weekends could be more relaxed of course. I really like your coffee pot. I don't drink coffee either but I do like the idea of it and the smell. I'm always the one who's the big kid and has chocolate milk!! Happy going back to school to you all.
ReplyDeleteCute little bags, I almost wish my kids went to school so I could get some!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with JJ that would be hard to pass off but they are so stinking cute always love your shop.
ReplyDeletelove your goods as always! happy back to school to YOU!
ReplyDeleteHIHIHIHIHI!
ReplyDeleteGosh. Your blog has gotten so amazingly professional.
It is, of course, as wonderful as I remember.
Just wanted to stop by and say hi!
Hey do you have an RSS feed for your blog? I want to follow through Google Reader and not email.
ReplyDeleteI do... but I have no idea how that all works. I know that there are quite a few people who read LMM that way though so it must be possible! Sorry I'm not help in that area...
Delete1. I hate making lunches too. Why is that?
ReplyDelete2. I also make lists for my kids...and mine says hug Mom and Dad too!
3. CUTE re-usable bags!
4. Love the smell of coffee and I am going to go grab a cup right now. :)
Forgot to add that I love that comparison quote you have up there too.
ReplyDeleteAmen to the comparison quote. That is such a tough lesson for all of us to learn. Thanks for the wonderful inspiration you give!!! (trying not to compare me to you... ha)
ReplyDelete"way too much cuteness going on in these lovely photos!"
ReplyDeletewhat a great "cute" idea to have clipboard charts! ...just love everything!
Still homeschooling.... but about to enroll my kids just so I can get some of your cute little snack bags.... hehe....
