(Early) Fall nest fluffing, other stuff....

I thought we'd take a tour.  You know... since none of you know what the inside of my house looks like at this point.

Bwahahahaha.

I get this funny craving for spiced candles, pumpkins and other harvesty items about the first of September.  So I feel that I'm doing quite well pushing this back so far.
Please note.  Dog dishes are disgusting.  There is not a good place for ours in this house... so there they sit.
I really want some cute pumpkins for my table... but that IS early so sunflowers will suffice.  I love them.
I found a tiny gourd that looked like a pumpkin... also please note, my vintage suitcase got a new home because my new puppy wanted to use it as a chew toy. Bad doggy!!

A while back I posted a pinterest photo that I wanted to use as I finished the beadboard on the left side of our new hallway. (Finally DONE!)  I adapted it a bit and used one chalkboard, divided by a strip of wood, and I hot glued lower case letters from Pottery Barn kids right onto the chalkboard.  (I have a few chalkboards left in my store, FYI)
There are no backpacks on it because my hoodlums are in school right now... but you get the idea.  I LOVE this little station.  I can't stress that enough.  They actually use it too... hence my love.
And for the several dozen of you that have been emailing me that you've been lifting up my JJ in prayer... I can't tell you what that has meant for my heart and his.  I have cried over my keyboard many times as I read your words.  It got worse...as in boys cornering and circling him at recess to beat him up, and then it started to get better because of my/teacher involvement.  I am SO glad I dived in, in spite of JJ's pleading.  The school administration has been wonderful and I think we are working out some good plans.  One day at a time.
Okay... now we arrive in our guest space.  I have a very SPECIAL guest arriving next week... I'm GIDDY.  I almost can't sleep for the excitement- just ask my man.  I'm pretty sure I'm driving him bonkers.  See that cute barn photo (from my shop) and the farm house sign?  (coming soon to my shop)... I think she is totally going to dig this room.
I added a really fun new print in here too....(also from my shop... sorry... shameless I know.) It makes my heart totally happy whenever I see it.  I originally thought it would be darling in a nursery.  But I quickly realized it would be darling anywhere! Yup.  By the way, I dare you not to sing this song all day now.
I had to tuck a few pumpkins here and there...
And these birthday flowers arrived on my doorstep from a sweet local blog reader/friend! Aren't they gorgeous in here?! (They may not last til my guest arrives but I will enjoy them as long as possible.)

I think I'm just about ready... And wait til you see all the places I'm bringing her.  I hope she rests up on the plane ride.  Ha!
Oh and don't forget- there are still a couple more days to enter the Rusted Chain giveaway!

  1. All beautiful and inspiring. Thank you for sharing all that. My Gran used to sing the Bushel and and Peck song to me and my sister when we were little, I haven't heard it for about 30 years!

    1. That means so much to us. It has been challenging but bullying is taken very serious around here so that has been a huge blessing. I have been so concerned about his little heart....I think he feels like he was made weird or different....lots and lots of reassurances and loves happening.

  8. Really, it's 9/11 and you are blogging about your house? How shallow and unfeeling.

    1. Dear Anonymous - I am so sorry that this day has brought out bitterness in you. I have no doubt that we have all reflected on this day and been saddened by the memories it dredges up. I ask though, what does name calling and judgment do to bring honor to the lives that were lost? How does attacking someone help to bring meaning to their sacrifice?

  13. I did a little fall nesting today myself! I just couldn't hold off any longer. :) I love the close up picture of the sunflowers on your table, that fan, the updates in your guest place, and that a special lady is coming to visit!!!

Sorry to hear things had to get so bad for your little man... Kids can be so mean and I wish we could just make them understand that it doesn't help at all. I do hope you are able to work with the school to make sure it only gets better! God goes with Him and yet it is still such a scary thing.

  15. I love it that I feel as if I know you. I love the idea of the samples out for guests, definately doing this. As for the dog bowls, I have a Yorkie so this may not be feasible for a larger dog, but I bought china dishes that match my kitchen, blue willow for me, and use them for dog dishes. They are still out in the open, but a little cuter!

  23. I was admiring the pot rack in your kitchen, when I remembered that the house we'll move into in a couple of weeks also has a pot rack above the island... then I realized that I'll really need to keep my pot bottoms (heretofore unseen by the public eye) scrubbed! See, you never know how your blog posts might inspire someone!
