Snow fun DIY

Who doesn't love to bundle up and have some good fun with snow- especially when you can make it look like it's been tie-dyed!?  (Original idea found via Pinterest, here. )  My sis in law and I decided this would be kind of fun for kiddos, and inexpensive to boot... What I didn't anticipate, was that my almost twelve year old would stay outside for hours coloring snow.  Who knew?

You will need:
Four (or more) squirt bottles from the craft store. (near the cake decorating aisles most likely)
Food-safe coloring of your choice- we chose neon colors.
Water
Children who like to play in the snow. Ha!

Fill up your bottles, add some food coloring and pass them out!  (Be expected to fill these up again and again for them.)
The color was also washable so everything they were wearing didn't get stained.

Side note-be careful because if your hoodlums douse their snowball pile with colored water not thinking about it and then leave them in wait for the next day's snowball fight with daddies and uncles... they will freeze into little ice balls overnight.  And then when they hit daddies and uncles with their ice-balls, it will most likely pack a punch.

It's all fun and games til someone takes an ice ball in the eye.

Just remember that.

(FYI Nobody was seriously hurt in the making of these snowballs... I'm just saying.  If a lesser man had been hit in the face with one though... he might have taken his sled and gone home.)
They are very pretty, aren't they!?

And now... for a little peace in the midst of all the holiday chaos out there...I'm home with this sick little one today and it occurred to me (as I was making calls to cancel things I had scheduled today and crossing things off my to do list) that sometimes God presents opportunities for seeking peace if you only ask.  Yesterday I was spinning my wheels getting the necessities done, the mountains of laundry, the grocery list making, etc... and I found myself asking, "Have I done it again?  Have I missed half the season to the hustle and bustle?"  Of course, I've spent time with Him but it's been a little hurried if I'm totally honest... and I've been trying to take time for myself while my shop is closed, time for creating and giving myself manicures (something I neglect all. the. time) but I was craving time to sit.  Rest. Prepare my heart.  Do nothing.  Be still.  And guess what?  I get that chance today while I snuggle with Ava.  (Thank you, Lord.  You know what I need before I do.  You are awesome. I plan to make the most of it. Amen.)
The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.
Psalm 29:11

"You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you."
Isaiah 26:3
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
Matthew 11: 28-30

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:6-7

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father,
Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6

  1. Thanks for the peace and rest and anxiety verses as reminders. I need that today. What started (earlier in the week) as a plan to get our son to the dr. for what seemed like appendicitis signs has now turned into switching the appointment to be for our daughter, who cannot seem to recover from this bronchitis/cough. (Our son is now fine!) It's been quite a week, and I needed the reminder to rest in HIM. Thank you Sweetie!

  7. Desperately need those verses today - even though I rushed through reading them. I'm going to have to force myself to go back and soak them in. Times are tough and I'm battle weary. So thankful that I have a Place to find rest, if only I'll ask and take it <3

Thankful for your posts and inspiration <3

  10. I KNOW I'm going to sound like a "debbie downer", but does the food coloring stain clothes? I want my kids to have so much fun and this looks like a blast, but a little worried about Noelle getting it all over her new jacket. Just a question. (:
