FAQ

I've been blogging since 2008, and I've posted hundreds of photos of my home and life, which often leads to questions as people see something that sparks their interest.  I get emailed on a regular basis with questions from you, my delightful readers and I've gathered the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions here.  If you have a question but don't see the answer below, feel free to shoot me an email, at lemonademakinmama@comcast.net, and I'll do my best to answer it for you!

Blessings,
Sasha

Reader: "What type of camera do you use?"
LMM: I shoot with a Canon Rebel XS.  I typically use a 50mm lens to shoot most photos when I'm indoors, and I use the regular kit lens when I'm outside or need to zoom onto a photo.  I love the 50 mm lens, because it works beautifully for portraits, and low light settings, but the only thing that is a little tricky about it, is that it's not a zoom lens, so leave a little room for practice.

Reader: "What color are your walls painted?"
LMM: "Ivoire" from Sherwin Willaims Paints.

Reader: "What color are your kitchen cabinets painted?"
LMM: "Creamy" from Sherwin Williams Paints.

Reader: "Can you give the step-by-step of painting kitchen cabinets?"
LMM: Yep.  I detailed it as best I could within this post.

Reader: "Did you make or buy your big chalkboard?"
LMM: I made it.  I found a huge frame in a clearance pile at TJ Maxx, ditched the broken mirror, and fitted the frame with a quarter inch thick sheet of plywood that had been painted with several coats of chalkboard spray paint.
Reader: "How do you get your frosting to look so pretty?"
LMM:  First of all, thank you!  I use a star tip very often, and a pastry bag.  Easy peasy, and you can purchase all of your pastry bag/tip supplies at a local craft store, like JoAnn Fabrics, or Michaels.  Just fit the tip onto a pastry bag coupler, fill the bag with frosting, twist and squeeze the end of the bag so no frosting leaks out on your hand, and gently squeeze and swirl as  you go.

Reader: "I love your header image!  Where did you find it?  Did you have it created for you, or did you use some sort of clip art?"
LMM:  I actually used an image I found on Corbis images, and them edited in Picnik (a free editing software) to brighten it, resize it, and add text. (This used to be my original header image, but I've since changed it slightly, to what you see now, as I needed to adapt the size in order to advertise with BlogHer.)
Reader: "About your 1 Cor. 13 sign.  Do you make these?  And where do you purchase the large sized stamps that you used to make this?"
LMM: I have made these by custom order in the past, but to be honest, they are a tremendous amount of work, and I don't always have the time to accept orders for a project of this magnitude.  When I have created them in the past, I've charged $100.00 plus an additional $35.00 for shipping, but have used ink, rather than the black paint you see in my sign.  The result is more of a greyish finish.  I prefer this paint finish, but it was just too difficult to work with, and I needed to use ink instead.  The shipping cost is crazy because of the size.  You can find my step-by-step instructions here, along with stamp ordering info.

Reader: "Please tell me where you found your numbered stools?"
LMM:  Actually, they were just plain wooden stools, but I've painted them green, then black, and finally white, over time.  They got the number when I decided to change the paint color from black to white- I used masking tape to tape off the shape of a number, and pressed it down on the old black colored paint.  Then I painted the whole thing white, pulled up the masking tape to reveal the black numbers, sanded and distressed the entire thing, and used a satin finish polyurethane over the whole thing to seal it in.
